Ramen (ラーメン) is a Japanese adaptation of the Chinese Lamian (拉麺). “拉” means pull and “麺” means noodle. In full that means Ramen is made by twisting, stretching, pulling and folding the dough into strands, using the weight of the dough. A bowl of ramen must be combined with wheat noodles and soup.
A good bowl of ramen is usually not very healthy. If we combined the fat, cabs and sodium together. One bowl of tonkatsu ramen (568g) can be up to 656 calories. On top of that, it also consists 1249mg of Sodium!!! That means you need to at least walk for 177 mins (3mph) in order to burn off one bowl of Ramen.
TSUJIRI, 155-year-old Japanese traditional tea brand, is not a strange name for those who love dessert in Toronto. They have now 4 shops in Canada (Dundas Square, North York, Mississauga and Edmonton) and another 5 are coming soon (Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax, Montreal and Burnaby). Their Matcha soft serve is one of best. It is not necessary for me to comment on their other desserts which are of course super amazing. The level of sweetness, texture and design are all balanced out. They are perfect.
TSUJIRI North York has something else special too – RAMEN!!! They opened up their 2nd floor to have a new dine-in menu. The decoration, the services and the design are up to date. You definitely can feel like you are located in the heart of Kyoto! The menu is not big but features several ramen based on the Tsukemen style where the noodles and soup are served separately. They have different kind of soup you can choose such as Tonkotsu (pork bone), Miso, shiro dashi (clear broth)… etc, and in addition, the noodle has a very refreshing matcha flavour. It is called Tsuke Soba invented by TSUJIRI.
I find that it is already very healthy, the noodle is Soba and also the soup is really not as salty as other ramen places, which is a huge plus for me. In case you still do not find that this is healthy, they also serve Poke Soba Bowl which combines a variety of vegetables, protein, and cha-soba along with their unique sauces. Very importantly, it is very fresh and tasty. The price is not very expensive, around $10 – $13 per bowl of ramen.
At the end, dessert is a must. Their dessert menu is completely different then down stairs. We have ordered the mixed Warabimochi (Matcha and Kinako). We dipped them with some caramel. It tastes very good with a good after taste too.
We strongly recommend TSUJIRI as your next ramen destination!
